Low-level, Age Tech R&D Roadmap Developed Technology to contribute to the shortage and isolation of care workers conducted by KAIST Future Strategy Research Center

Research and development (R&D) plans will be established to help solve super-aged society problems by utilizing age-tech such as artificial intelligence (AI) and bio.
On the 19th, the Committee on Low Fertility and Aging Society announced that it held a briefing session on the launch of research to support the establishment of an Age Tech R&D roadmap at the Seoul Government Complex. Age tech refers to products and services that can more effectively contribute to improving the quality of life of the elderly by converging advanced technologies.
Korea’s aging rate is the fastest in the world. Accordingly, the government aims to secure technology to respond to super-aged societies and preoccupy the global market by applying advanced technologies that change industrial paradigms such as AI, bio, and robotics.
The study will be conducted by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) until the end of the year. The KAIST Future Strategy Research Center will be in charge and a total of 10 professional researchers will participate.
The R&D roadmap focuses on technologies that help solve the problems of a super-aged society in reality. Representatively, AI care robots are developed to address the shortage of care workers.
It is also expected to include ways to use digital healthcare devices to resolve physical and psychological isolation of the elderly living alone and the development of muscle strength-assisted wearable devices to support independent living for the elderly. Prevention of aging and extension of healthy life using senile disease treatment and regenerative medical technology are also major tasks.
“Age Tech is the core of the national growth engine that will drive the growing senior industry and market,” said Joo Hyung-hwan, vice chairman of the low-level committee. “It is necessary to suggest the direction of comprehensive research and development from the perspective of ministries.”
In the future, when the Age Tech R&D roadmap is in place, the low ranking committee will share it with related ministries and collaborate between ministries for a joint response.
