The ITS World Congress, taking place at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta from August 24-28, 2025, will offer a unique opportunity for transportation professionals to experience the latest technological advancements in real-world settings.
Organized by RX in partnership with ITS America (ITSA), the event will feature an exclusive series of Tech Tours, designed to showcase Georgia’s leadership in intelligent transportation systems (ITS).
This year’s record-breaking congress event will bring together nearly 800 speakers and hundreds of exhibitors to share innovations in transportation technology. One of the most exciting elements of the congress is the chance for attendees to explore cutting-edge transportation technologies through the Tech Tours, which will provide a firsthand look at the real-world applications of these advancements across Atlanta and its surrounding areas.
Jaime McAuley, the event director for the ITS World Congress at RX, emphasized the significance of these tours, “We have partnered with the most innovative projects in the Atlanta region to provide attendees with a firsthand look at the transformative technologies shaping the future of transportation. These exclusive tours offer a unique opportunity for industry professionals to engage with cutting-edge innovations in a dynamic, real-world environment.”
The Tech Tours will provide visits to several key locations that are at the forefront of transportation innovation, offering attendees valuable insights into the deployment of intelligent transportation technologies. Each stop on the tour highlights different aspects of how advanced technologies are being applied to enhance traffic management, mobility, safety, and overall efficiency.
Tour highlights include:
- Infrastructure-Automotive Technology Laboratory (iATL): The iATL is the world’s first private-sector connected vehicle lab, where live demonstrations of ITS applications are conducted. Visitors will witness the integration of connected infrastructure from cities across the US and experience demonstrations of technologies like emergency vehicle preemption, school zone safety, and vulnerable road user solutions. The iATL serves as a testing ground for solutions that are transitioning from the lab to real-world applications, showing how these innovations are improving safety and mobility across North America.
- Curiosity Lab at Peachtree Corners: Peachtree Corners is recognized as a leader in smart city innovation, and the Curiosity Lab offers a glimpse into the future of urban mobility. The lab is a fully connected environment that integrates multiple smart city technologies powered by 5G. Participants will see how these technologies work together, offering interoperability across sensors, devices, and dashboards to create a smarter, safer city.
- Cobb County Braves Stadium Traffic Management Center (TMC): Truist Park, home to the World Champion Atlanta Braves, features a state-of-the-art traffic management center that controls traffic flow for both the stadium and the adjacent Battery Atlanta mixed-use development. The TMC employs advanced adaptive traffic systems to manage both vehicle and pedestrian movements, ensuring smooth operations during major events and daily traffic.
- Georgia Department of Transportation’s Transportation Management Center (TMC): For over three decades, Georgia’s TMC has been the epicenter of the state’s ITS operations, providing real-time traffic management and emergency response coordination. With the NaviGAtor system, the TMC enhances the safety and efficiency of travel across Georgia, playing a crucial role during major events such as the Olympics and Super Bowl.
Bryan Mulligan, president and CTO of Applied Information, which oversees the iATL, said: “We set out to make Alpharetta a global proving ground for connected vehicle technology, and today, those innovations are improving safety and mobility in over 1,500 cities across North America.”
