Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) Managing Director Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao on Sunday (January 26, 2025) said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu foresees a bright future for the corporation with the introduction of electric buses.
Speaking at the 76th Republic Day celebrations organised at the RTC House, Mr. Tirumala Rao emphasised the importance of leveraging technology for better transportation services and financial growth through cashless payments. Expressing happiness over his long tenure at the corporation, he said these were emotional moments for him, as his retirement was approaching soon.
Referring to the wide reach of the State-run public transport carrier, he said the APSRTC served nearly 60 lakh passengers daily with about 11,246 buses, ensuring their safety. He said old buses were replaced with the new ones in the fleet of vehicles, including 698 new buses and 654 hired buses. There were plans to introduce over 1,000 new buses and this batch would include electric buses, he said.
Revenue growth
He said the corporation had achieved revenue to the tune of ₹150 crore from the cargo division and had also implemented solar roof plants to save ₹27 lakh annually. Referring to the recent Sankranti festival season, he said the corporation had earned record profits on certain days during the festivities, which indicated the growing patronage for it.
Mr. Rao said the government was keen on extending the best transport services to people in the State. It had also set the ball rolling for the promised free bus service for women in the State. As part of it, a delegation led by the Transport Minister M. Ramprasad Reddy, had visited the neighbouring States where the free bus services for women were being implemented.
He urged the employees to work collectively aiming for passenger satisfaction as their ultimate goal. Stating that the APSRTC had significantly contributed by providing affordable services even in remote villages, he praised the disciplined and dedicated work of the staff, including drivers, conductors and mechanics, who contributed immensely to the corporation’s achievements.
APSRTC Executive Director (Admin) G.V. Ravi Varma, Chief Manager (Personnel) Swarupanand Reddy, A.D (Vigilance and Security Shobha Manjari, Security Officer Madhusudhan, representatives of various associations and employees were present.
